THE SOCOMPA JOURNEY

Two years of adventure, 20 years of passion.

Socompa, our remarkable endeavor born in 2004, started as a playful notion.

In search of a transformative adventure that would take me far from my Italian roots, I yearned for the other side of the world. A photograph of a 4×4 pick-up, taken in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, years earlier, kindled a vision of liberation—a means for the life-altering change I craved.
Around 2002, a three-month sojourn brought me to Salta, where the high desert of the Central Andes, the Puna, cast its spell on me.

With that, in 2004, Socompa Adventure Travel was born: a website, a 4×4, and an inexhaustible well of passion.
We blazed a trail in adventure travel through the Argentinean Puna. In over 18 years, Socompa has ascended to become a leading private travel company in the Argentinean Northwest, powered by the finest team of guides in the region.

Our Journey Together
Ever since a great team of dreamers joined me in this audacious venture, Socompa’s journey has been fortified by the expertise of many great professionals that have been an integral part of shaping our path.

Our Home
With a fervor for hands-on trip management, we’ve expanded the Socompa family. Our residence on the outskirts of Salta City now stands as the intimate Hotel Casa de Campo, a testament to the myriad worlds my wife, Valentina, and Mariana have crafted.

The Boldest Endeavor
Then came the Hostería de Altura El Peñón, Catamarca – a venture situated 500 km from Salta. Perched at 3400 meters above sea level in an oasis, this tranquil haven is home to 400 souls and boasts a backdrop that ranks among the world’s most breathtaking sights: the Campo de Piedra Pómez.

Socompa Lab
Driven by our commitment to sharing wisdom about quality, safety, and sustainability in adventure travel, we gave life to SocompaLab — our consultancy and training division. Thus far, this journey has been profoundly rewarding, resulting in the education of over 500 guides and tourism professionals, among others.

Today, Socompa touches the lives of approximately 60 passionate Argentinians, all united by their fervor for this region. We consider ourselves profoundly fortunate to be blessed with one of the most fulfilling vocations: making the dreams of travelers from every corner of the world a reality.

After climbing volcanoes and mountains, exploring, finding and meeting, he set out to create something he couldn’t find in the travel market: a collection of adventure itineraries in the Argentine Puna, customised, unique for the traveller, important for the local people and sustainable for the environment. Socompa Adventure Travel is the end result of two years of full-time travel in search of new experiences… new adventures.
